before the book: transcription and ocr document scanning

Tape Transcription and
OCR Document Scanning
Transcription
Before the Book offers transcription services for taped meetings, focus groups, and interviews from micro- or standard-sized cassette tapes. An electronic file will be provided. Rates are charged for actual time spent transcribing.

OCR Document Scanning
If the file you need has been corrupted or lost but you can provide a hard copy, Before the Book can scan your document using optical character recognition (OCR) software and provide you with a new electronic file. OCR document scanning saves time and spares the chore of retyping. The text will still need to be proofread, but Before the Book gives you options here as well.
Before the Book offers three levels of scanning:

Basic Scan: Pages are scanned using OCR software and an elecronic file is provided. This includes minimal cleanup of extraneous characters that typically occur with OCR scanning. This option allows costs to be kept to a minimum. A good-quality typewritten document can be scanned at average rates of 10–20 pph (pages per hour).
Scan and Proof: Pages are scanned, the text is proofread, and changes are made to match the hard copy provided. This option still keeps costs to a minimum yet provides an accurate electronic file. Typical scan-and-proof rates average 5–10 pph.
Scan, Proof, and Edit: This option provides the same scan-and-proof services listed above as well as a light edit to correct punctuation, spelling, and grammatical errors. Typical scan-proof-edit rates average 3–7 pph.
