before the book: frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a freelancer?
The benefits of using a freelance service are many. Because there is no formal employment contract, there are no paid holidays or other employee benefits to be paid by you, the client. It also gives you the opportunity to determine whether the levels of service offered are adequate for your needs. Freelancers use their own office space and provide their own equipment. All of these factors provide a win–win situation.

Can Before the Book meet my deadline?
Before the Book will be forthright with you regarding deadlines. If Before the Book can’t meet your deadline, we’ll say so. We can also refer you to colleagues who provide similar services.

How do I know that Before the Book can edit my book to my satisfaction?
If you’d prefer, Before the Book can edit a 5- to 10-page sample of your work, at no charge, so you can determine whether the level of edit meets your needs.

Why should I pay someone to proofread my work?
Because authors are so familiar with their work, having read and revised it many times, inconsistencies often appear in a document as well as grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. A fresh set of eyes can often spot these errors and point out potential fatal flaws—a huge benefit to the author—in order to correct as many problems as possible before publication.
